History of Computer Languages: Completely Fake
May 12th
I found this from @mattgemmell on Twitter, a timeline of programming languages that is basically true, albeit that it is for comic purposes only, I am in complete agreement with it. You can see it here: link.
However I would offer a few corrections, notably by adding Visual Basic in 1991.
Computer genius Alan Cooper gathered his hippie-like habits from BASIC and decided that if a monkey can write a command line DOS application, then why can’t a monkey make a program with a GUI? Cooper decided that there was not enough pain in the world and he left all of BASIC’s flaws, notably the unstructured nature and introduced what is well-known as ‘DLL Hell’.
Screentoaster: Mac OS X Test
Dec 30th
I clicked around the web management of this blog to test the powers of ScreenToaster.com. I found that ScreenToaster works just as well on Windows Vista as on Mac. For more information on ScreenToaster, see here. Basically, for those who don’t know, Screentoaster.com is an online java-based video screencapture utility. You just have to get an account, use a java-enabled machine, and have a somewhat fast internet connection to upload the video the screentoaster.com. You can embed your videos in your personal web pages.

I received a great comment from Branden regarding my post “Vantage or Touch Dual” giving advice for me to visit (what I’ve found to be) a great site for cell phone reviews, www.cellphones.ca.
The link given is to a comparison between the three phones I’ve considered; the LG Rumor, The LG Vantage, and the HTC Touch Dual. I personally have found this to be the most helpful comparison between these three phones I’ve yet to find. And the biggest realization of this comparison is that this clearly expresses that the Rumor is a great phone, yet doesn’t compete in terms of smart-phone-like features, that the HTC Touch offers the most (including Java Application support) with support for both CDMA (Bell/Aliant) and GSM (Rogers/Fido), but has a poorer quality screen than either the of the LG’s (in terms of displayable colors)–and in terms of resolution when compared to the Vantage.
I’d like to than the great people at cellphones.ca for their work–and for the help in my decision. I would encourage all readers to check out over there…. and to the most interesting comparisons are between the carriers (I find it interesting that most people rated Rogers higher than Bell??? I haven’t been with either, so I can’t speak).
