Webkit Acid3 Test–Now 100%
Oct 5th
I’ve previously forgotten to mention that as of September 25, 2008 Webkit now fully passes the Acid3 test. You can read more at a blog post on the Surfin’ Safari Weblog at blog.webkit.org. I’ve included screenshots below demonstrating this ability. To learn more about Webkit read this page, to get updates as to Webkit improvements go to Webkit.org ..
Remember this is a BIG deal because what happens in Webkit will trickle down into Apple’s Safari and Google’s Chrome, eventually.

Chrome: For Mac [Updated]
Sep 21st
Today CodeWeavers (makers of the popular “CrossOver Mac” which allows you to run Windows apps on Mac without Windows) released a free CrossOver for Chrom(e/ium)… it is technically “chromium, the open-sourced project for Chrome, but it’s still the same app, I haven’t yet tested it, but this should do for mac users who want to give it a try, see it in a great blog post here, you can download it here, and please comment about what you’re experience is. It’s also to note that Google will soon release a version of Chrome for mac which will be optimized for both the Mac OS, the Mac OS X graphics interface, and the Mac Hardware. But give it a try.
[UPDATE Sept 21 10:30 AM] – After many tests, I can determine that this version is very (very, very, very, very) slow. This version isn’t exactly the fastest anyone will ever see Chrome… This should a considdered a conceptual preview-if you want to see it at the best you should test it in a Windows virtual machine, either using VirtualBox, Parallels, VMWare, or on a real Windows PC.
Google Chrome Update: Security Now!
Sep 12th
In this weeks installment of Security Now! with Leo Laporte and Steve Gibson, covered the security (and to an extent the performance), it’s interesting that I love Chrome, And so have many others, but Steve Gibson doesn’t so much share theat opinion. Take a listen for yourself at twit.tv/sn161 and see more about security at Steve Gibson’s security site at grc.com.
Google Chrome-Acid3 Test
Sep 2nd
The Acid3 test (here) tests a browsers Javascript rendering ability in terms of being standards-compliant, for a reference Webkit scores 100, Opera scores 83, Firefox 3 scores 71, IE 7 scores 12, but you just get a mess (seen here), and Google Chrome (which uses the Webkit rendering engine (don’t confuse this with the browser “WebKit“, read more about webkit here) and a new javascript engine called V8-which boasts speed to kill, produces a 73 on the Acid3 test. Not bad considdering it’s the fastest to complete the test, but clearly Opera and WebKit (the browser).
@UPDATE- 9:35P
after doing some Google searching I’ve discovred that Google Chrome has scored from 61/100 to 78, this test is supposed to be repeatable, however it seems there’s some user-biased module to Chrome. My finding was that Chrome scored 73. That’s all I can say for sure.
Google Chrome-What Browser Am I Using?
Sep 2nd
A common trick web developers use is to determine which browser you are using to assure that an incompatible browser doesn’t have a bad experience on a site, or to change the formatting to suit the browser (really common for Internet Explorer 6)… anyway I’m using the recently released Google Chrome (to download it: google “Google Chrome Download”, or go to www.google.com/chrome) and I tested Chrome against one of these scripts (the site I used is located here) and found that the script showed Chrome as Safari 525.13 on Windows.
