My favorite iPhone Twitter app, Tweetie, seems to be about to go 2.0 with the latest 3.0-only update of it’s top-10 selling social networking app. Since the dawn of Tweetie just 10 months ago I’ve loved every second I’ve spent with it, and even more loved seeing other iPhone users using and reviewing it. In these reviews you almost always see two basic phrases:
That is very high praise, especially coming from a market that is highly dominated in mind-share by Apple’s multimillion dollar industrial design. The more important detail is that there is finally a platform with developers dedicated to user experience…. remember Windows Mobile? Palm (before WebOS)? Blackberry(before the Curve)?
It wasn’t that long ago that the best applications that we any home-brew or even small corportate IT/IS department could do were stylus-driven, 256-color, and lacked so many refinements we’ve seen in Mac OS (just to list a few; button alignment, button size, button text, button format, screen layout, application flow, location of controls, speed and stability of custom elements, visual effects, and annoying tapping/clicking sounds).
As I’ve diverted from the promised content, I’ll note that based on this Tweet from Lauren (Tweetie programmer-extraordinaire), Tweetie 2 is definitely coming. Today TechCrunch, Mashable, and TwinCities have all posted preview screenshots. This looks good!

Back on December 2 of last year I wrote about ScreenToaster.com. If you don’t remember the service, you can get more information at ScreenToaster.com or in my previous post about them. Basically they are a website which does screen captures in video without the need to install another program. (Assuming you’re running a modern browser on a somewhat recent system [ScreenToaster actually uses Java])
I got an interesting email yesterday about some new features:
.mov files. They’ve also added much more capability (to quote from the email):
>What changed since February :
This is, in a single word, amazing! ScreenToaster is already one of my favorite and essential utilities, but now it’s many time more interesting.
Back in my earlier review I complained about the lack of audio recording, that’s been added, the frame-rate seems to have improved, and now the videos aren’t ’stuck’ in ScreenToaster with these new export functions (to Youtube, download as .swf and .mov files. I can’t wait to use all of this!
One last comment: did I mention this is free?

I’ve previously forgotten to mention that as of September 25, 2008 Webkit now fully passes the Acid3 test. You can read more at a blog post on the Surfin’ Safari Weblog at blog.webkit.org. I’ve included screenshots below demonstrating this ability. To learn more about Webkit read this page, to get updates as to Webkit improvements go to Webkit.org ..
Remember this is a BIG deal because what happens in Webkit will trickle down into Apple’s Safari and Google’s Chrome, eventually.

You may have noticed my iPod Touch screen shots, or many other from other blogs, if you don’t already know how to do this you hold the home button then tap the power button. The screen will flash white and the snapshot is taken. You can take screen shots of anything on the iPod Touch…
